Why book a Freedom Center field trip?

The Freedom Center is a preeminent cultural and educational learning center committed to pursuing inclusive freedom and promoting social justice for all.
Through our field trip bookings, we aim to provide the necessary information to facilitate conversations with your students about slavery and injustice in our culture and society, as well as inspire and teach how to apply the principles and methods of the Underground Railroad

Included Materials

While all field trips are self-guided, we do provide a short orientation at the start of your visit, as well as educator-designed materials to assist your facilitators on the content of our museum and to maximize the students’ learning.

Planning Your Field Trip: Things to Know

Group Size

To qualify for Field Trip pricing, you must have a minimum of 15 paying guests with a reservation at least two weeks in advance of the date of your visit.

Chaperones

We require one chaperone per every ten students.

Grants

Grant funding is available to schools who meet certain eligibility requirements and are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

Upon submission of the booking form, you will receive a confirmation email with links to apply for grant funding. Please complete the short grant application form complete with requested attachments. For any questions, please contact groupsales@nurfc.org

For grant-covered bus transportation, a bussing invoice must be submitted to the Freedom Center no less than two weeks after the visit.

Availability

The Freedom Center is open 10am-5pm Wednesday through Sunday and closed on Monday and Tuesdays. Upon submission of the Field Trip Booking Form, we will contact you to confirm your arrival date and time, however, if your desired date/time is not available, we will reach out with alternate options to find a date/time that works for you.

Guided Tours

The Freedom Center does not offer guided tours for field trips currently. If you are interested in booking a guided tour for a group, please complete our Group booking form. Group Booking Form →

Lunch

Lunch space/tables are available by request through the field trip booking form and subject to availability. Lunch space can be reserved for half-hour durations and is subject to a fee of $0.50 per-person per-half-hour.

Lunch space must be reserved/paid for two weeks prior to arrival.
Lunch room capacity is 50; groups larger than 50 will require two lunch periods.
