This experience, aligned to eighth grade Ohio and Kentucky standards and the 6-8 C3 grade band, examines the role of slavery in the social, economic, political, and geographic causes of the Civil War. Students will explore decisions and events from Colonization onward that led to secession and the Civil War, as well as the decisions and events that shaped Reconstruction. Throughout the exploration, students will examine the roles and responsibilities of citizens, democratic principles, conflict and compromise, cause and effect, economic decision making, and human interconnections. Keeping in mind historical and modern contexts, tour materials require students to consider multiple perspectives while examining the past and making connections to the present.
