Join us for an engaging presentation by the U.S. Mint Director Mrs. Ventris Gibson as she discusses the significance of the three Harriet Tubman commemorative coins.

In 2022, Congress passed Public law 117-163 known as the Harriet Tubman Bicentennial Commemorative Coin Act which “directs the U.S. Mint to issue $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and a half dollar clad coin.” Join us as Director Gibson, the 40th Director of the U.S. Mint and first Black woman appointed to this position, champions the importance of learning Black history and the significance of highlighting Black women in history while giving inspiration to younger generations. The 30-minute presentation will include a 15-minute Q&A facilitated by Stephanie Lampkin, PhD, Curator.

This program celebrates the U.S. Mint’s 2024 release of the Harriet Tubman Commemorative Coin, which are available for purchase in three denominations from the U.S. Mint and in the Freedom Store at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Surcharges from the sale of each coin will be equally split between the Freedom Center and The Harriet Tubman Home, supporting the mission of the organizations.

Following the discussion, Director Gibson will sign certificates of authenticity that are included with the coins from 2 p.m.–4 p.m. in the Grand Hall. We invite you to bring your commemorative coins or purchase coins from the Freedom Center Museum Store in advance of the program for the signing.
