Statement on Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

"Today, we mourn the loss but celebrate the life of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Justice Ginsburg was a relentless defender of justice, fighting from both sides of the bench to ensure a more just nation, striking out against inequity and discrimination. She understood that discrimination, whether based on race, religion, sex or sexual orientation, has no place in our nation and is indefensible based on the Constitution and the principles in which our democracy is grounded.

She understood, as we do at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, that a nation built on justice and liberty for all can only ring true if that justice extends to everyone. In protecting women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, Justice Ginsburg protected human rights. We must honor her legacy of equity by lifting up the voices of women and the LGBTQ+ community in our nation and across the globe, defending their rights as vigorously as we do those of every other person as we work daily, as Justice Ginsburg did, for the cause of inclusive freedom."
