Celebrate the enduring power of music, storytelling, and performance with a dynamic afternoon of live arts at the Freedom Center.

American Legacy Theatre will present excerpts from their upcoming production, Bridge City, a compelling work that centers Black joy while exploring themes of code-switching, gentrification and the strength of communityreminding us that it often takes a village to build a city.

Audiences will also experience a powerful choral performance by Muse, an all-women’s vocal ensemble, presented in connection with the temporary exhibition Jubilation! Ambassadors on a Sacred Journey. Through rich harmonies and spiritually rooted song, Muse honors the legacy of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, whose music carried the stories, faith and resilience of formerly enslaved people to audiences around the world.

Complementing these performances, join Dr. Eric R. Jackson, distinguished historian and Professor of History and Associate Dean at Northern Kentucky University, for an engaging lecture exploring the history and cultural impact of Black music. Drawing on decades of scholarship in African American history, Dr. Jackson will illuminate the traditions, movements, and artistic innovations that have shaped Black musical expression and influenced generations.
