What We Leave Behind: Creative Archives of Identity and Legacy

Reflect on the stories you carry and the legacy you hope to leave in this hands-on workshop facilitated by Desirae Hosley and co-led by the current Teen Poet Laureate. Together, they will guide participants through a creative exploration of archiving as both an emotional and artistic practice, encouraging deeper consideration of what we inherit, preserve and pass forward.

Through guided discussion, storytelling, and creative exercises, participants will examine how archives can live beyond traditional documents—taking shape in memories, traditions, and personal artifacts. Attendees will create their own small “archive” piece, such as a poem, letter, collage or keepsake, capturing an aspect of their identity or family history while reflecting on the role of creative expression in safeguarding stories for future generations.

Materials and handouts provided.

This is the third in a series of three workshops.

Attendance at all three workshops is not required to learn to save and catalog family stories.

Workshop Facilitator

Desirae Hosley

Born and raised in the Queen City, Desirae ‘The Silent Poet’ Hosley is known for being the quietest person in the room...until she takes the stage. Although Spoken Word is where she cut her teeth, you can find her acting, speaking, and community organizing. She values linking people, facilitating conversation, and bringing healing to those around her.
