Join us for an unforgettable evening of freedom and cultural celebration

Join us on Juneteenth, the oldest celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States, for an evening at the museum indulging in music, poetry, food and drink. Themed in the light of a modern-day "speakeasy," SPEAKFREELY will take you back to a time when underground speakeasies' brought people from all classes and backgrounds together in a social setting.

Experience the remarkable sounds of Destiny L and Chasing Dreams as they perform a captivating blend of music, ranging from old classics to current hits in jazz, R&B and blues genres. Immerse yourself in the rich history of these musical styles, which were born during an era when speakeasies served as vibrant hubs of social connection and artistic expression. This special evening will also feature the musical stylings of DJ Guy Wes with a tribute to 50 Years of Hip-Hop, as well as spoken word from local artists who will share powerful stories and reflections on freedom and the African-American experience.
