Posted on June 9th, 2008 by Chris McMahon

The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is counting down to Family FreedomFest, a day-long festival featuring free live music, indoor and outdoor family activities and ice cream on Saturday, July 26 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Guests who visit the Freedom Center during Family FreedomFest will be able to register for a Walt Disney World Resort vacation. The prize will be awarded at the end of the day. See official rules for complete details.

“The Freedom Center is a perfect location to host Family FreedomFest, a family event planned to celebrate the importance of freedom – in the past – and today – and in the future,” said Donald Murphy, CEO of the Freedom Center.

He continued, “The Freedom Center’s purpose is to educate people about past struggles for freedom so that they can be inspired to act in the present to build a better future. Our hope is that the activities of the day will encourage even more guests to experience the Freedom Center.”

Family FreedomFest activities include face painting, a caricature artist, arts and crafts, a magician and balloonist, performances from the Madcap Puppet Theatre, re-enactors, Family FreedomFest Idol contest, a moonwalk and a visit from a group of performing ‘black cowboys.’ Entertainment includes performances by the Breathairean Ensemble, Is What, Loco Poco, Eclipse, Uptown R & B, and several gospel performances including the NAACP Gospel Choir and W.E.B. Dubois Academy.

Family FreedomFest guests will also be able to visit the changing exhibit, “Americans Who Tell the Truth,” a collection of portraits by Cincinnati native, Robert Shetterly, of Americans past and present who are “individuals who put themselves on the line, stood up for human rights issues, and made the United States a stronger nation,” said Shetterly.

Sponsors for Family FreedomFest include McDonald’s, Loud & Clear Inc., Metro, United Dairy Farmers, Radio One, WCPO-TV, Kroger and Cincinnati Bell.
